Sule Lamido

In 2007, Sule Lamido began his tenure as Governor of Jigawa State, serving two terms until 2015 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP). A veteran politician who had previously served as Foreign Minister under President Obasanjo, Lamido was considered one of the influential northern governors during the Fourth Republic. His administration focused on infrastructure development and education in the northwestern state, which borders Niger Republic.

Lamido's political career spanned decades, rising through PDP ranks as a founding member and key strategist. However, his governorship later attracted scrutiny from anti-corruption agencies. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) eventually arraigned him on charges related to alleged money laundering and abuse of office during his time as governor, making his case part of broader efforts to prosecute former state executives for financial crimes.
