African Steamship Company founded

The African Steamship Company was founded in 1852, providing regular scheduled steamship services between Britain and the West African coast. The company's vessels greatly reduced journey times and transport costs, making the palm-oil trade more commercially viable and increasing the volume of British goods entering the Delta markets. The company also carried missionaries, government officials, and supercargoes, further integrating the Delta into the Atlantic commercial world.
