What happened

A contemporary French source (Dalzel's History of Dahomy, citing an earlier account) records a civil war at Oyo between the king and his 'ministers' led by 'Ochenoo, the prime minister', which ended in the defeat and death of the prime minister, occurring in about May 1774. Law identifies 'Ochenoo' as a rendering of Osorun (a shorter form of Basorun), and the event as the overthrow of Basorun Gaha by Alafin Abiodun. Gaha was killed after being overthrown.
