What happened

In 1793 Awole, who acceded in 1789, ordered the invasion of Apomu, a market town within Ife territory used by Oyo, Egba, Owu, Ijebu and Ife. This violated the taboo against destroying a market and the eewo against using the Ida Oranyan against Ife; subsequently no orders of Awole were obeyed. After also ordering the sack of Iwere, he was forced to commit suicide.
