What happened

Awole succeeded Abiodun and is said to have reigned for seven years, placing his death in c. 1796. He was compelled to commit suicide. Traditional evidence recorded by Samuel Crowther in the 1840s provides figures for the lengths of the reigns of Awole, Adebo, and Maku, and Law uses these to reconstruct the post-Abiodun chronology.
