What happened

Following the brief reigns and deaths of Adebo and Maku (c. 1796–7), Oyo experienced an interregnum of approximately five years before the next Alafin, Majotu, was installed, placing his accession at c. 1802. This interregnum reflects the depth of the constitutional crisis and the difficulty of securing agreement among the Oyo Mesi on a successor.
