What happened

Around the same period as the sack of Oyo Ile, the Nupe were united into a single kingdom by Etsu Edegi (Tsoede), dated by different sources to c. 1531–91 or c. 1505–57. Edegi himself is credited with raids against the Yagba and Bunu, north-eastern Yoruba groups. Nupe forces also sacked the town of Ede on the River Osun and made two unsuccessful incursions across the Osun into Ijesa territory.
