What happened

After Ewuare's death a succession crisis and provincial revolts brought Ozolua "the Conqueror" and then his son Esigie to the throne. Esigie faced a revolt by the Uzama chief Oliha allied with the Attah of Idah; he defeated it and destroyed the rival Edo town of Udo "as the Romans did Carthage," settling its survivors far away and forbidding any prince to rule Udo. This marked a turning point securing Ewuare's line.
