What happened
Oba Oguola, Ewedo's successor, is reputed to have obtained the services of a brass-worker from the Oghene, the spiritual overlord of the Benin dynasty. This craftsman established in Benin the art of cire perdue (lost-wax) casting in brass, founding a craft thereafter always associated with the temporal and spiritual powers of the dynasty. The dynasty maintained the practice of sending parts of a dead Oba's body to the Oghene for ritual burial.
