What happened

Around 1300 the ogiso dynasty of Benin was overthrown after years of misrule and replaced by a short-lived republican government. The people then asked Ife for a king; the ooni sent his son Oranmiyan, who fathered Eweka by an indigenous woman, founding the second Benin dynasty that endures today.
