Pottery makes its appearance in Phase B at Dutsen Kongba early in the fourth millennium BC, making it the oldest pottery yet found in Nigeria. Decoration, when present, is effected by means of comb-stamping — repeatedly pressing into the wet clay surface the teeth of some comb-like instrument.
