What happened

Law places the reigns of four Alafin—Odarawu, Karan, Jayin, Ayibi, and Osinyago—in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, with a notional accession date for Odarawu of c. 1687. Johnson records that Odarawu had an especially short reign. Ayibi is said to have acceded as a minor, necessitating a Regency. Nearly all Alafin from Odarawu to Oluewu were murdered or compelled to commit suicide, a pattern not recorded for earlier reigns.
