What happened

Rock paintings at Birnin Kudu depict humpless cattle; some are long-horned, like the 'Hamitic longhorn' no longer extant in Nigeria, others are short-horned like the West African Dwarf Shorthorn. The presence of a horse in the Geji paintings has been used to suggest they are not earlier than the fifteenth century BC. All the cattle painted at Birnin Kudu are humpless, consistent with evidence from Daima that humped cattle did not appear until around AD 1000.
