Sahel mound ('Bornu 38') occupied near Lake Chad maximum shoreline

A mound nearly 3 m high ('Bornu 38'), situated just to the northwest of Bama on the ridge marking the maximum shoreline of Lake Chad, yielded radiocarbon dates indicating occupation from the beginning of the second millennium BC to the middle of the first. No structures were revealed, but pottery was fairly plentiful, along with pieces of ground stone axes, bone tools, quartz flakes and grinding stones.
