Samuel Ajayi Crowther baptized in Freetown, Sierra Leone

Captured as a slave during the Yoruba wars accompanying the fall of Oyo, Crowther was freed when the Royal Navy intercepted the slave ship and sent him to Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he was baptized into the Anglican Church in 1825. He later returned to Yorubaland as a missionary.
