What happened

Soon after the first appearance of iron in the middle of the first millennium CE, people at the Daima settlement mound in north-eastern Borno began building circular mud huts with potsherd-paved floors. Carbonized grains of guinea corn provide the oldest direct evidence of agriculture there; the occupation continued into the early second millennium CE.
